Notes
This account of Kingsbridge, a market town in the South Hams district of South Devon, was first published in 1864 as Kingsbridge Estuary; with Rambles in the Neighbourhood. It includes appendices listing birds and butterflies of the district and a list of provincialisms. Thomas Roope, the owner of the book, has included an interesting comment on his family's involvement in the introduction of the blanket industry into Devon, contradicting the original involvement of the Prideaux family (perhaps ancestors of the author of the book, Sarah Prideaux Fox)
